Another Round of Thanks

Thank YouLast Saturday’s Variety Concert was a huge success; some people have suggested it was the best yet. We raised more than £200 on the night through the raffle and the Pound a Pop; and together with the ticket sales, this means we have a significant amount towards the Christmas Lights. The organising committee can breathe again!

Thanks are due as always to our brilliant patron, Tank Sherman, who kept us in order (well, perhaps not) and on time (well, almost) throughout the programme and then finished the evening with a great demonstration of why he was voted Comedian of the Year in last week’s Devon Performance Awards. Congratulations, Tank!

The Annual Variety Concert, of which this was the seventh, would not take place at all if it wasn’t for the enthusiasm, energy and sheer hard work by Gina Sherwood and Lisa Smith, who not only find all the acts and persuade them to take part, but also keep us entertained with their own singing, dancing and very funny repartee.

We had a real mix of acts this year: repeat performances from Girls Allowed Out, Chudleigh Shanty Men and Sharon Cook; a return from Black Magic; and newcomers AJ’s burlesque dancers, Becky Whittaker, and CADS. The incomparable Tena Ladies stole the show and received a well-deserved standing ovation. A massive thanks to everyone who took part.

And of course, there were the back-room boys and girls who printed the tickets and programmes; prepared the Pound a Pop envelopes; collected raffle prizes; put up the stage; set out the tables; sold raffle tickets; and folded raffle tickets. You are too numerous to mention (and I’m afraid I would miss someone out if I tried) but you all know who you are and know that you are much appreciated.

And finally, I want to thank our wonderful audience who came along, once again, ready to laugh and applaud, spend your money and support this community effort to ensure our street is bright with lights at Christmas.

A huge Thank You all round.
