Mike Cosgrave (Sin é, Jackie Leven, Jackie Oates) and Steve Banks (Maddy Prior & the Carnival Band, Blue Jewel) have pooled their considerable musical talents and experience to form an exciting folk duo, performing a smörgåsbord of beautiful music, traditional and contemporary, from Britain, Europe (mainly France, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe), and beyond. They have recently completed a very successful tour of 15 gigs with Villages In Action, the Devon rural touring scheme. Word of their superb musicianship and entertaining programme is spreading fast.
Their first CD, “Warp & Weft” has had great reviews. “Two terrifically talented musicians bringing unexpected gems for our delight. Soulful and fun.” — Maddy Prior. “Superb playing and singing, all with a great sense of style and fun ! ”— Tom McConville. “Cosgrave and Banks are masters of their instruments, their tunes and songs taken from a variety of sources and exquisitely arranged and performed – a real delight for the listener. Highly recommended.” – Pete Cooper. “Their debut is very good indeed. They take traditional tunes, songs and motifs and weave them into exhilarating new compositions.” — fRoots. “A truly captivating CD that touches the very depth of being as only music can.” — The Living Tradition. “A delightfully eclectic album. Two incredible musicians, weaving threads of music together to create material that is greater than the sum of its parts.” — FATEA . “A fine evening’s entertainment; top quality musicianship across a varied and highly entertaining programme.” — Folk On The Moor folk club.
Tiggy and Maggie Duffie are delighted to be asked to perform at Chudfest. They have not long been together since they formed the duo last December but they have supported Ange Hardy. They are due to open this year for Geoff Lakeman, Bob Fox and Phil Beer and Sarah McQuaid.
Maggie plays guitar and is a singer/songwriter. Tiggy is also an excellent musician, playing fiddle, ukulele, guitar and keyboard.
Tiggy and Maggie enjoy harmony work and they are both thrilled to be working with one another. They had fabulous feed back from their gig when they supported Ange Hardy and they are really keen to get a lot more festivals folk clubs etc under their belt.
Maggie worked for 20 years with another guitarist and when he retired from their duo last September to concentrate on other work she just envisaged going it alone. However Tiggy has more than filled the gap and they are very happily learning from each other: Tiggy a Uni musical graduate and Maggie self taught !!
She is really looking forward to whole evening at Chudfest and thrilled to be sharing the stage with Steve and Mike a worthy duo indeed.
